I’m not sure if I should be concerned but it just hit me that the two reality shows that have to do with being a housewife, are from the two main areas that I’ve lived my whole life:

The Housewives of New Jersey (where I was raised)

The Housewives of Orange County (where I lived for almost all my adult life).

Nothing profound about it.  Just noticed it.  Gave me pause.

Caleb and Seth are my little peeps and they come out with some doozies. Some are downright funny (”Mom, come look at my poop! It looks like a mountain of whipped cream!”) Some are profound (”Mom, just believe“) and some are just downright embarrassing, (”Mom, you smell.”)

This is my space to record some of the memories my hormones keep erasing. Plus, it’s easier than finding my journal that I never write in..

February 23, 2009: We all went to bed early last night so, when we all woke up early this morning, I suggested we take a family walk. 6:30 a.m. we were circling the block as the drizzle threatened to turn into a full rain. As we rounded our second lap, I looked up and saw the break in the sky. When I looked up, I was surprised to see a rainbow overhead! It was magic and suddenly, we went from being two adults with two kids to four awe-struck children staring at the sky with our eyes as big as saucers! The oohs and ahh’s kept going until the second rainbow appeared above the first one — a double rainbow! I could have cried. The last time I saw one of those was about 2 weeks before my dad died in 1995. I had taken a few days of mental health and was driving back to be with my dad. The double rainbow broke through the rain and I pulled on the side of the road with the other onlookers to take in the greatness of the moment.

Caleb turned to me and said, “Mom, in Casey’s bible (that’s his bear, by the way) it says that ‘God is the scientist of the rainbow.”

I thought for a moment and said, “Wow. That’s a great way to say it, Caleb. God IS the Scientist of the rainbow.”

Indeed. He is.

When I hear “turkey meatloaf” my first thought is: “Why?”
My second thought rhymes with the first thought:  “Dry.”
But truly, I bought the four-pack of ground Turkey at Costco and made this easy, dee-lish and NOT dry :-) Enjoy!

Turkey Meatloaf

1 - 1 1/2 lbs of ground turkey meat
1 egg
2 slices of bread
1/2 cup of plain bread crumbs
Worcestershire Sauce
2/3 cup barbeque sauce (use 1/3 in the recipe and reserve 2/3rds for the baking)
Honey
Crushed garlic
ketchup
2 tbs olive oil
Directions
Lightly beat the egg, add a couple of dashes of Worcestershire,  1/3 cup of bbq sauce, a couple of squirts of ketchup, and a good squirt of honey  and mix together
Add the ground turkey meat and crush two or three cloves of garlic, add 2 tbs olive oil and by hand (I use gloves) begin incorporating everything.  Soak two slices of bread under water and squeeze out excess water in sink. Break bread into tiny pieces into the mixture.  Add breadcrumbs and mix together
Take the meat and form it into a loaf or a loaf pan.  Coat top of loaf with 1/3 of bbq sauce and bake  at 350 degrees for 35 minutes.  Take meatloaf out and put remaining 1/3 of bbq sauce on and bake another 20 minutes.
Serve with rice, potatoes or some butter noodles.  It’s great in a meatloaf sandwich the next day!
